Have you noticed how many of us seem to have an energetic umbilical cord to our electronic devices? Look around and you will see people at the coffee shop, airport or grocery store plugged into technology. People are choosing to tune out their environment in favor of listening to something on their mp3 player, smart phone or laptop. The number of people with smart phones is growing exponentially, (58% of adults have smart phones in the US according to PEW Research). People without smart phones most likely have an mp3 player. Many of whom are listening to an audio book, guided meditation or podcast right now! Personally, I love listening to lectures, audio books and podcasts on my iPod. How about you?
My professional background in the television business, plus my interest in writing, coaching and personal transformation led me to create podcasts, meditation albums, audio books, commercials, interviews, manifestos, and long format narration. Adding these offerings to my business opened up a new path to connect with like-minded women. I highly recommend that you create some kind of audio offering for your clients and prospective customers.
Why You Want to Get into the Audio Game
1. Share Your Voice and Build Your Tribe
You can build your following, book more speaking engagements and sell more books with a regular podcast or radio show (that can become a podcast). Almost five years ago, my Anxiety Slayer podcast was launched to share supportive tools and resources with people who suffer with high levels of stress and anxiety. Today Anxiety Slayer is celebrating tens of thousands of subscribers and we have created several downloadable audio products to support our growing audience of listeners without a traditional list.
How did my partner and I do this? We made a commitment to show up each week and share a wide variety of supportive topics with our listeners. We let things grow organically, ask for feedback from our tribe and we keep showing up. Our listeners have come to trust us. Their trust is priceless.
2. Two Platforms Are Better Than One
Building a strong platform for your book and business is crucial to your success. Whether you choose to host your own internet radio show or commit to recording a podcast, an audio platform is an excellent way to get your voice in front of your audience. Creating a second platform is easier than you think.
Did you know that you can repurpose your valuable blog posts, workshops and teleclasses as audio offerings and create an additional revenue stream? You can also create audio books to bundle with your eBooks and hardcover books. The possibilities are endless!
3. Fun Fact: 33% of the Population are Auditory Learners*
Auditory learners prefer hearing and speaking as a main way of learning. As an auditory (and experiential) learner, I do best with a hands on experience and instruction that I can listen to. I don’t think I’ve ever read an instruction manual in it’s entirety!
Do you listen to audio books? Me too! I love that I can listen while driving or when relaxing in my hammock or favorite beach chair on the shores of Lake Michigan. I love that I can be inspired AND relaxed and that I can give my eyes a rest from reading or looking at a computer screen. I can close my eyes and listen to my favorite podcast, playlist or guided meditation.
If you want to grow your heart-centered business or get more people exposed to your message, adding audio to the mix is a smart decision. You can share your wisdom on and off the page! If you need support, I’d love to talk with you and help you get started on your multi-media journey!
